Enjoyable weekend operating from Emley Motor and Steam Show

Club members enjoyed a successful and enjoyable weekend operating a special amateur radio station at the Emley Motor and Steam Transport Show.

Blessed with hot and sunny weather throughout, the club set up a portable station to demonstrate amateur radio to visitors and showcase the hobby in action. Using a Kenwood TS-590 transceiver paired with an Aerial 51 antenna, operators were able to make radio contacts across the UK and Europe using voice and digital modes.

Over the course of the show, the station achieved more than 200 contacts, highlighting the effectiveness of the equipment and the enthusiasm of the operators involved. Visitors to the station were able to see live radio operation in action and learn more about the world of amateur radio.

A total of ten club members visited and operated from the station, with everyone contributing to the success of the activation. The friendly atmosphere, excellent weather and steady flow of contacts made for an enjoyable experience for all involved.

The club would like to thank the event organisers and everyone who stopped by to chat and learn more about amateur radio. Following such a successful weekend, members are already looking forward to returning next year.

For Denby Dale Radio Club, the event was another excellent opportunity to promote amateur radio, meet fellow enthusiasts, and demonstrate the continuing appeal of communicating across the airwaves.
