Fascinating talk from members of the David Brown Tractor Club

Members of David Brown Tractor Club speak to a meeting on Denby Dale Radio club

By Richard Blandford, M0RBG

Members enjoyed a fascinating and highly informative evening when two representatives of the David Brown Tractor Club visited us at the Golden Cock.

John Torley, a fellow DDARC member, and club chairman John Beevers took us on a journey through the history of the David Brown company — from its beginnings in 1860 through to its closure in the 1980s.

As well as showcasing the remarkable range of tractors manufactured in Meltham, they gave us a vivid insight into the man behind the name, David Brown himself.

The company’s collaborations with Aston Martin and Ferguson Tractors featured prominently, along with its crucial wartime contributions producing components for Spitfire aircraft and Challenger tanks during the Second World War.

The Tractor Club today has a thriving worldwide membership of more than 1,400 enthusiasts. Its monthly open day at Meltham regularly attracts over 100 visitors, who come to explore the impressive collection of tractors on display.

Last year we operated GB2DBT from the club for the first time, and we’re delighted to be returning on Sunday, June 21, as part of Museums on the Air. A warm welcome is guaranteed — and it promises to be an enjoyable and memorable day out.
