Record turnout for Yorkshire Day station at Farnley

Our club did Yorkshire Day proud with not one but three stations operating as GB6YD in and around our new shack in Farnley Tyas.
The day began with the raising of the slightly gaudy West Yorkshire flag, but that was superseded by a second ceremony with a flag that showed more restraint.
Next came the hoisting of the mast. This was a team effort with everyone voting that John, G6GSV, should do the heavy lifting, while the rest watched. He managed this with some encouraging words from his dad, Malcolm, G0ISX.
Meanwhile, three rigs were being set up, with Jerry, M5JB, on HF SSB in our luxurious shack, Ian, 2E0ISD, and Mike, G4AHJ, on 30 metres CW in the breezier gazebo and a variety of members on the IC-706 working 145 MHz.

Darran, G0BWB, says: 'I think we had over 150 QSOs and I definitely know Ian worked USA on SSB. I've not studied the log, but there was loads of EU on 40m and 2m was active into South Yorkshire and Lancashire (though we don't mention them!).'
Two metres was certainly lively with several calls from other special event Yorkshire Day stations, including a storming signal from GB1YD, led by Simeon on Woodhead Pass.
Richard, M0RBG, says: 'Forty metres was buzzing. I'd only just arrived when the mic was passed to me and I must have worked 10 -15 stations in a row.'
It was encouraging to see this enjoyable event so well supported. More than 20 members and prospective members came along, the best turnout of the year. And it was good to wecome some of our senior Huddersfield amateurs, including Raymond, G1MSD and Jim, G1MOZ.
Many thanks to all those who arranged the event and attended. A great Yorkshire Day.
