SOTA programme talk by Chris sees audience numbers hit new heights

Chris, M0RSF, who gave the SOTA talk to club members

By David Simmons, M0RIU

Club members were lucky enough to receive a presentation from Chris M0RSF, above, about the SOTA programme and how to take part.

This was probably the best attended event of the year so far, with nearly 30 members in attendance.

The origins of the programme, and what it takes to qualify as a SOTA summit, was explained to the assembled club, as was the importance of the activation zone.

The type of radio transceivers usually used was discussed, and that it could be a simple 2m FM handheld or a more sophistated HF set up.

Antenna choice was also explained and a friendly debate regarding the best portable HF antenna ensued, a proper radio amateur subject.

The presentation was definitely not death by PowerPoint, as each slide carried useful information and most had photographs of summits. The evening ended with the compulsory draw for the raffle, which was won by Denise, G1DEN.
