A Happy New Year as four members join our club
As we welcome a New Year, it is a great pleasure also to welcome four members to Denby Dale Amateur Radio Club.
They are Simon Baxter, M7BXR, from Brockholes, Rofi Shahin, M7IFE, from Crosland Moor, Michael Shore, G1AST from Longwood and Andrew Mallinson, 2E0KUK, from Marsh, who rejoins us.
All four are active on the bands and we look forward to hearing them on the air and meeting them in person.
Simon, an engineer, has a very impressive mobile setup – for a good reason. As he says: 'My home QTH sucks for radio, I live near the bottom of steep sided valley in a particularly hilly area.'
Rofi has a keen interest in new handheld radios, especially the more affordable models, and he reviews them regularly for a large following on RadioRofi, his TikTok channel.
Andrew received his licence in 2017 and made his first QSO from Black Hill. He's a keen walker and SOTA operator and has an entertaining video blog of his various portable operations. Here he is, battling a Force 10 breeze on Meltham Moor.
Michael, highly qualified IT specialist and Microsoft engineer, is looking to get back on the air. He says: 'First licensed in 1983, Caroline G6ZWQ got her exam slip posted the day before mine so you can just tell how many people were passing the RAE back then.'
He is pictured with Gerald, G3SDY, at a Denby Dale Amateur Radio rally in 1984.
